The Serpentine Jarrahdale Tourism Association has been given a boost with a grant of $15,000 from the Peel Development Commission to put tourism back on the map in the shire.

The Serpentine Jarrahdale Telecentre will become the Visitor Information Centre and will help with the production of a new guide to the many attractions in the region.

The tourism association has produced a number of brochures and infomation boards since its foundation in 1974 and will contribute $7900 to the project.

Davina Eden-Austen will be the tourism officer and will work out of the telecentre.
She has already started to famillarise herself with the local businesses and will develop and maintain a website with a contribution of $4500 from the shire council.

"For $200, local businesses and tourist operators have the opportunity to take out membership of the association. The first 40 will get silver level on the website and have advertising in the new colour map and guide which will have a distribution of 30,000.
There will be an employment page for the shire and surrounding areas which will be free to members and available to other businesses for a small charge."

The telecentre is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and from 9am until noon on Saturdays.
The new tourism hotline number is 9525 9999.
