The Jarrahdale forest has evolved over thousands of years into a special ecosystem of trees, shrubs and flowers and the famous tall red Jarrah hardwood is often found in groves that contain Marri, Sheoak, Wandoo, Blackbutt and flooded Gum.

Take the leisurely drive up the Jarrahdale Road Hill, pass through the historic village of Jarrahdale collecting your map of the giant forests at the Old Post Office Tourist Information Centre.

Native Orchids

During August to November several Greenhood orchids (Pterostylis) flower in the hills and pockets of native bush on the coastal plain. From September to November Spider, Cowslip, Pink Fairy (Caladania), Blue Lady and sun orchids Thelymitra) and Donkey Orchids (Diuris) and other varieties are in bloom.

The flowering Jarrahdale wattles in early August herald the start of the wildflower season in the hills. Ancient wildflowers begin to flower and respond to the spring sunshine filtering through the forest canopy. The snow white creeping clematis, brilliant red coral vine, chorizema and peas flowers, many golden wattles and hibbertias, pink cream and red verticordias, mauve holly-leafed hovea and brilliant blue of Leschenaultia and many more!
